It is often protected through discipline.
Through choosing restraint when emotion wants to react.
Through choosing wisdom when pride wants to be heard.
Through choosing silence when argument is available.

There is a cost to peace.
Sometimes it is the cost of being misunderstood.
Sometimes it is the cost of walking away.
Sometimes it is the cost of letting go of the need to prove a point.

Peace does not mean weakness.
It takes strength to remain calm when provoked.
It takes character to remain kind when disappointed.
It takes maturity to refuse unnecessary conflict.

Many battles are won
not by fighting harder,
but by knowing
which battles are not ours to fight.

The person who learns to govern themselves
will often find
a peace that circumstances cannot steal.
